Bertrand Area Community Fund

Bertrand Area Community Fund is dedicated to progress and long-term prosperity through charitable giving. BACF seeks and receives donations for its endowment and in turn makes grants in support of projects and programs in an area roughly the same as the Bertrand school district. The BACF mission: connecting passionate people with resources to accomplish dreams for a thriving Bertrand.

Since its inception, the Bertrand Area Community Fund has funded nearly $335,000 in grants that have supported a wide range of efforts, from high-visibility projects such as the pool to quieter, essential work such as air conditioning for the nursing home and holiday food boxes. The vast majority of grantmaking supports youth, including a major grant for new school band instruments in 2025. 

BACF’s young people’s arm, the Youth Advisory Committee, also raises funds and completes community projects that its high-school-age members believe are important.   The Youth Advisory Committee attended the 2nd Youth Connection Summit in both Ord and Kearney.  The event was designed by Nebraska Community Foundation to encourage high school students from across the state to discover their potential to create positive change in their hometowns.  

While grantmaking is a primary function, another is supporting work that contributes to the long-term health of Bertrand, such as supporting efforts to satisfy demand for childcare and housing. 

When invested in the unrestricted endowment through Nebraska Community Foundation, a portion of the interest from donations — past, present, and future — becomes the funding for grants. Donations made to BACF during give2GROW in 2026 will be placed in BACF’s general fund and used to support Bertrand area community projects.

The grant cycle is open, meaning applications are accepted any time. More than $40,000 per year is available for grants, and this amount grows as the endowment grows.
