Funk School Community Center

Annual Fall Funky Chili Cook-off 

History- Funk Public Schools last year of operation was 2006-2007. Funk Public School district was transitioned to the Holdrege Public School District at this point. Although the closing was a blow to the community, a concerned group of Funk-ites wanted to see the facility carry on as a community center. Loomis Public Schools expressed interest in renting the school for the 2008-2009 school year during their remodel project. With the $10,000 Loomis Public Schools paid in rent we were able to buy the Funk Public School from the Holdrege School District.

 After forming a volunteer board, the first plan of attack was to become a 501(c)(3) non-profit which was accomplished in March of 2008. Our mission statement became: “To provide a place where community can come together”.

Over the last 17 years, the board has made many improvements to the building and continues to hold fundraisers and plays host to various community events.
