Holdrege Lions Club

A nonprofit organization

The Holdrege Lions Club was organized on October the 21st of 1948. As members of our club we are a community of various ages, educational backgrounds, personal experiences and a common bond to serve mankind. We are part of Lions International with clubs in 210 countries and geographical areas. Our motto is: We Serve.

Our Holdrege Lions provides testing for sight and hearing for preschool through high school to Holding and the surrounding areas and are able to test at daycares also; as testing may be done as early as 6 months of age. We do purchase eyeglasses for children and adults in need and assist financially for hearing and sight surgery for those in need of financial aid. We also collect used glasses and hearing aides that are used to help those in need.

We also help support the Lions Eye Bank of Nebraska which is an eye tissue recovery organization that is dedicated to provide high quality eye tissue restoring vision through corneal transplantation.

Through our Individual Assistance Fund our club was able to provide $20,000 plus to individuals needing financial assistance for medical and other emergency needs last year.

As Lions we  also support at District and State levels which has also come back to our and surrounding areas when natural disasters have hit creating extra needs to individuals and families.

Last year we were able to give 2 $500 Ron Uribe Scholarships to Holdrege area graduating seniors.

Our Club has many projects; The Family Fun in the Sun each spring which is free to the public, support to the Food Pantry and the Holdrege Public Library, set up for Red Cross Blood Drives, Pancake feeds, and the gift bags we supply to Phelps Memorial Health Center for children in the hospital.

These are just a part of what Lions Clubs are all about. there are projects for Youth leadership training, Camp for the visually and hearing impaired, diabetes awareness and educational materials, mental health programs, plus much more.

Also over 90% of all funds we receive go directly to the needs and assistance of those we serve.   For - When a Lion Club gets together, problems get smaller, and communities get better.
