Loomis Public Schools - Beef in Schools

A nonprofit organization

Together with our community, Loomis Public Schools is committed to supporting local producers, enhancing the school lunch program, and providing meaningful educational opportunities in agriculture, health, and nutrition.

The Beef-in-Schools program is a cornerstone of this effort. Through this program, our students enjoy high-quality, locally raised Nebraska beef in their school meals 2–3 times per week. Each month, LPS serves grilled hamburgers for all students, along with many other delicious meals featuring beef donated or purchased from area producers.

This program benefits our school in several ways:

  • Better Nutrition: Students receive fresh, protein-rich meals that support growth and learning.

  • Hands-On Learning: The program allows students to see the full cycle of food production—from pasture to plate—helping them appreciate agriculture’s role in their community.

  • Local Economy Support: By partnering with area ranchers and processors, we keep resources in our local economy and strengthen the connection between school and community.

  • School Spirit: Sharing meals made from local beef builds pride and creates special traditions like monthly hamburger days.

More than 300 students and staff benefit from this program each year, and the positive impact is clear: better meal participation, more student engagement in discussions about health and nutrition, and strong community involvement.

We invite you to consider donating to help us continue providing locally raised Nebraska beef for our students. Your support nourishes young learners, celebrates Nebraska agriculture, and ensures this program continues for years to come.
