Phelps Community Pantry

A nonprofit organization

The Phelps Community Pantry was established in 1983 with the help of the Phelps County Ministerial Association.  The Pantry is a Christian-based organization that seeks to show the love of Jesus Christ by helping meet the physical needs of area residents and is an equal opportunity provider. A ten-member board directs the Pantry, which is wholly run and maintained by over 45 local volunteers.   The Pantry is sustained throughout the year by the many generous donations of food and funds from area residents, businesses, organizations, churches, and schools.  In April 2008, through the generosity of many individuals and companies, the Pantry purchased our building at 202 West Avenue.  This building has proven to make our services more accessible to those needing assistance and to those donating food items.  The Pantry is open each weekday afternoon from 1 to 2 pm for people to come and pick up a food box or to drop off food donations.  Individuals and families can receive food boxes once a month (12 times a year).  They can also receive an extra box at Thanksgiving and at Christmas.  We are excited to join the Phelps County Community Foundation for Give2Grow again this year.  The number of individuals/families is at an all-time high, and funds through Give2Grow help alleviate food insecurity for those served. The Pantry has used funds from Give2Grow to purchase food and household items throughout the year, especially during the holiday season.  We have also used Give2Grow funds to maintain and make repairs to our building and purchase freezers, refrigerators, shelving units, and other needed equipment and supplies.  The Pantry Board and volunteers are grateful to the Foundation and to the many generous donors who have given to us through Give2Grow.
